When I Turned 50 by John Miller
Motivation: age 50 fat bald high blood pressure lack of stamina

Process: Started a supervised weight training program and started a weight monitoring program (interfit)

Results: Improved self image and the beginnings of muscle definition (at this age) loss of over 50 pounds to date (still losing) hair from top of head has moved to my back (not everything can be positive) elimination of need for blood pressure medication increased stamina

When I turned 50, it occurred to me that this could be a defining moment in my life if I took control. I was morbidly obese, sedentary, medicated to control my high blood pressure and slightly depressed. The weight gain had been gradual over about a seventeen-year period, and I was just beginning to see a fat person looking back at me from my reflection, denial can often prevent the obvious from being observed. The high blood pressure was a result of the weight gain. The lack of stamina and poor self image also had their roots in my weight gain.

How then to implement the changes needed? I needed help! The overwhelming nature of my dilemma made my infrequent trips to the gym fruitless. The gyms I went to didn't provide the careful training, one-on-one attention, or personnel familiar with both the physical and emotional needs of an older, sedentary, uninspired (but not unmotivated) individual. I needed a long haul program and people who could assist me in not only becoming inspired, but also remaining inspired, through this long and difficult transformation.

Chris provided an incredibly supportive environment. From the beginning of my working with Chris I felt a genuine understanding of what I hoped to achieve, how I would be comfortable proceeding toward that goal and the need to assist me in maintaining the program over the long haul. Over the past year I've taken many small but important steps in achieving my goals-I've lost over 50 pounds, eliminated my need for blood pressure medication, increased my stamina, improved my self image and to my amazement I've begun to see the beginnings of real muscle definition. I have also over this past year expanded my involvement with Chris -adding the nutrition program, and an exercise regimen I truly look forward to. All in all,Chris has helped me reenter the world I had begun to shut out.
